Thanks for coming to show interest in surf rescue training!
Some important things you need to know:
Bronze Medallion $350 (all inclusive) – 9th – 15th December 2018. Participants MUST be 15 years old by the 15/12/18.
Attaining the Bronze Medallion enables you to join a patrol team and actively participate as a volunteer on the beach. The award is also the stepping stone to other more advanced awards within lifesaving. To complete the course, you need to do a timed swim, attend our course complete a workbook and pass an exam including both written and practical demonstration components. You must be a minimum of 15 years old to be eligible for the award. The club runs a Bronze Camp in December each year.
Training covers to following areas:
- Safety and wellbeing
- Surf awareness and skills
- The human body
- Resuscitation
- Defibrillation and basic oxygen
- First aid
- Radio communications
- Communication
- Rescue techniques
- Carries and supports
- Patrols
Pre-requisites:
- Candidates must be a minimum of 15 years of age on the dates of assessment
- Candidates must have completed a 400 metre swim in 9 minutes or less in a swimming pool of no less than 25 metres, or over a measured open water course. This needs to be completed prior to any training in the surf and/or deep water and must be signed off on the candidate’s assessment portfolio.
Surf Rescue Certificate (Ages 13+)
Like the Bronze, the SRC award enables you to participate in volunteer patrols on the beach. This award contains a subset of the Bronze Medallion syllabus and provides and opportunity for younger members to make a valuable contribution whilst at the same time gaining experience “on the job”. To complete the course, you need to do a timed swim, attend our course complete a workbook and pass an exam including both written and practical demonstration components. SRC is conducted the same time as the Nipper program in late December/early January. Candidates must be a minimum of 13 years old to participate.

- Candidates must be a minimum of 13 years of age on the date of the final assessment
- Candidates must have completed a 200 metre swim in 5 minutes or less in a swimming pool of no less than 25 metres, or over a measured open water course on flat water. This needs to be completed prior to any training in the surf and/or deep water and must be signed off on the candidate’s assessment portfolio.
